Jade Herrera — Reincarnation of Christopher

Overview

Jade Herrera is the abrasive, brilliant outsider who becomes the town's chief investigator of its deepest mystery. A tech entrepreneur who arrived with his friend Tobey on the first night, he is consumed by the symbol and is eventually revealed to be a reincarnation of Christopher, the man with the Jasper doll who preceded Victor's childhood. He is played by David Alpay.

Biography

Jade arrives in town in S1E01 with his friend Tobey, who is killed by Sara Myers on the second night (S1E02). Almost immediately he fixates on the strange pictograph — the symbol — which he spots in the trees, in the tunnels, and in his own head (S1E06). He partners with Jim Matthews on the radio tower and hears the voice that knows Jim's name (S1E10).

In Season 2 Jade's visions intensify around the music box arc: he glimpses the dungeon and the entity that claimed Julie, Marielle, and Randall as sleepers, and helps Boyd navigate the mystery of the cicadas. In Season 3 he decodes the numbers in the bottle tree: they are musical notes, and when he and Tabitha Matthews play them, the Anghkooey children appear — and Jade learns he is Christopher's reincarnation (S3E10), the latest in a line of incarnations that includes a Civil War-era soldier (S1E06).

Season 4 pushes Jade toward the answer. Under the influence of hallucinogenic mushrooms he asks Boyd to help him separate visions from reality (S4E04–05), then drinks blood from a skull and sees his past incarnations — each of them killed by residents who discovered their connection to the children (S4E05). He finds the tunnel leading to the place where the children were sacrificed (S4E05) and, later, the children's bones beneath the bottle tree's roots (S4E09). In the finale he is rescued by Ellis Stevens in the tunnels and escapes with Tabitha (S4E10).

Personality & Traits

Loud, arrogant, and relentless. Jade burns through allies with his bluntness but is genuinely driven — beneath the bravado is a man terrified by what he sees and determined to understand it. His vices (alcohol, and later the mushrooms) are self-medication for visions he cannot control.
