Nathan Myers — Sara's Brother

Overview

Nathan Myers was the older brother of Sara Myers and a resident of the town before the Matthews family arrived. He was killed accidentally by Sara in S1E05, when her obedience to the voices spiraled out of control — a death that defined Sara's guilt for the rest of the series.

Biography

Nathan and Sara arrived in the town together and shared a house; by the time the Matthews family arrived (S1E01) they were established residents. Nathan was protective of Sara, whose seizures and disturbing compulsions were already visible to those closest to her. In S1E05, Sara — obeying the voices' command to kill "the boy" — locked Tabitha Matthews in a barn and prepared to murder Ethan Matthews. Nathan, who had come clean about Sara to Father Khatri, arrived and stopped her; in the struggle, Sara inadvertently slashed his throat with the blade she had meant for Ethan.

Khatri concealed what had happened, holding Sara captive in a cellar (S1E06) and later telling Boyd Stevens about Sara and the voices (S1E07). Nathan's death stayed with Sara: she returned to their old house, now occupied by the Lius, and was rebuffed (S2E05), and Kenny later found her living in the church basement (S2E03) — a life shaped by what she did to her brother.

Nathan is shown as a kind, protective brother — the one person who believed Sara could be helped, and who trusted Khatri enough to confess the danger she posed. His faith in her was repaid with his life.
