Tillie — Colony House Tarot Reader
Overview
Tillie was an elderly newcomer who arrived on the bus in Season 2 and became a beloved, eccentric presence at Colony House, known for her tarot readings and her fierce intuition. She took the town's horrors in stride and devoted herself to comforting others — a kindness that ultimately cost her life when Fatima Hassan stabbed her during a violent episode tied to her unnatural pregnancy (S3E07). She is played by Deborah Grover.
Biography
Tillie arrived in town on the bus at the end of Season 1 (S1E10) and is among the passengers taken in at Colony House in S2E01. She weathered the bus passengers' difficult integration into the community and the town's mounting crises, and by Season 3 she had become a familiar, warmly regarded figure at Colony House.
In S3E03, Tillie discovers Fatima Hassan eating rotten vegetables and, worried about her pregnancy, attempts to comfort her with a tarot card reading — the reading is interrupted when a crow smashes into a window, an omen neither woman can interpret. Weeks later, a terrified Ellis Stevens confides in Tillie that he is afraid of losing Fatima, and she promises to help (S3E07). In that same episode, Fatima, doubled over with intense pain at the greenhouse, is comforted by Tillie — and in a sudden loss of control, Fatima stabs and kills her.
Her body is discovered the following day (S3E08). Boyd Stevens conceals his knowledge of what happened, and suspicion initially falls on Sara Myers before the truth about Fatima emerges.

Warm, intuitive, and unshakeably good-natured. Tillie read tarot not as a parlor trick but as a way of caring for people, and she had a gift for making frightened residents feel heard. She was perceptive enough to sense that something was wrong with Fatima long before anyone else could name it.
