The Pastor — Sophia's First Victim

Overview

The Pastor was a lone traveler who found the fallen tree on the road and drove into the town at the start of Season 4 — the same night the Man in Yellow, disguised as the woman Sophia, infiltrated the town and suffocated him to death while he lay unconscious (S4E01).

Biography

The Pastor encountered the fallen tree — the town's usual trap — and continued on, his car crashing into the sheriff's station in the township, accompanied by a woman named Sophia. The crash left him unconscious. While Kenny Liu slept at the station, Sophia visited the unconscious pastor and revealed herself: she was the Man in Yellow, disguised to deceive him and blend in with the townspeople. She then suffocated the pastor to death — the first murder of her infiltration (S4E01).

The townspeople never knew him. He was buried alongside Jim Matthews at a joint funeral (S4E03), where a flock of crows unsettled the mourners — an omen the town read as the Man in Yellow's presence.

Personality & Traits

Almost nothing of the Pastor's character is shown. He arrives seeking help — a man of faith in a place that punishes hope — and dies before the town learns his name. His role is that of a herald: his death announces the Man in Yellow's arrival among them.
