The Lighthouse

Overview

A lighthouse hidden deep in the forest, visible only in glimpses — its light and horn are first seen by Boyd Stevens and Sara Myers at the edge of the known world (S1E10). It is the town's most literal doorway: entering it through a faraway tree and being pushed from its tower window by the Boy in White carried Tabitha Matthews out of the town entirely and into the real world (S2E10). Yet the Boy in White later told her she cannot return home through it and that time is running out (S4E03) — making the lighthouse both an exit and a locked door. In Tabitha's vision, the sacrificed children are "kept prisoner" there.

Description & Rules

• Location & access: deep in the woods, beyond the talisman cave; reached via the bottle tree, which acts as a faraway tree delivering travelers to its base (S2E10).
• Light and horn: its beacon and horn are real, audible phenomena in the forest — the first hint of a structure "outside" the town's rules (S1E10).
• The escape route: Jim Matthews and Kenny Liu searched for it after Tabitha's disappearance but found only a new settlement instead (S3E01). Tabitha herself emerged in Camden, Maine — hospitalized, confused, wearing Victor's old clothes — proof that the lighthouse connects the town to the outside world (S3E01).
• The push: the Boy in White pushed Tabitha from a tower window — "this is the only way" (S2E10). The act reads as the mechanism by which the town releases someone: a one-way ejection.
• Prison of the children: in Tabitha's vision the children are "kept prisoner" at the lighthouse, linking the tower to the sacrifice and the reincarnation cycle.
