Tom — Colony House Bartender

Overview

Tom was the bartender at Colony House, a kind and easygoing resident who died trying to help rescue Tabitha Matthews from the collapsed basement of the Matthews house (S2E01–02). He later appears to Jade Herrera in a vision at the second bottle tree (S3E06). He is played by Reid Price.

Biography

Tom is established as a friendly face at Colony House when the bus arrives at the end of Season 1. In S2E01, after the storm collapses the basement hole where Tabitha was digging, Julie Matthews rallies volunteers — Ellis Stevens, Tom, and bus passengers Randall Kirkland and Brick — to dig her out. The house gives way again, crushing the rescuers: Tom, Jim Matthews, and Brick are trapped in the rubble overnight.

During the night the creatures hunt anyone outside their shelters. Brick dies of internal injuries, and a creature kills Tom — pinned in the collapsed house — and drags his body out of the rubble while Jim watches, helpless (S2E02). At dawn, Julie finds Tom's body and fears the worst for her father, who has survived.

Months later, Jade discovers a second bottle tree in the forest and has a vision of Tom — a glimpse of the dead that hints the town does not fully let go of those it takes (S3E06).

Personality & Traits

Good-natured, generous with his time, and quick to volunteer. Tom is remembered as one of Colony House's warmest residents — the kind of person who shows up with a drink and a hand when things fall apart.
